What Lurks Within: PrologueThat night, in the basement below the estate, a female werewolf with long black hair that was speckled with brown at the tips, was giving birth to her first pup. She was not pleased with who fathered her child but still she vowed to take care of her newborn son. The small child that now slept quietly in her arms already had a full head of midnight black hair. The woman looked first, to the other female werewolf who had helped her with the birthing process, then to the man standing in the far corner of the basement, watching her and the child.
His wavy hair was down to his shoulders. It was a dark red color and his eyes were the deepest shade of purple she had ever seen. The man approached her, and lifted the boy from her arms. She wanted nothing more than to take her son back and keep him from the evil clutches of the man before her but she was far too weak to keep her pup safe.
"His name shall be Ivan," the man finally spoke.
The lovely werewolf nodded her head, "Yes, Master Dimitri."
Accused of being a WitchI stood there, in the front of the room. Waiting for my judgment. Listening to the accusations of my neighbors, and the screams of the other girls that had been accused. I felt betrayed and scared. Scared of what was to come.
The dark cloud of doom that hovered over my head began to lift as my son came forward to hand the judge a note. The judge had no choice but to read it aloud, and for a moment, only a moment, I had a chance. The jury made their decision.
"Not guilty," called the judge. Then something awful happened. The other girls began to twist in unimaginable ways, letting out blood-curdling shrieks, and yelling that I was the one doing this to them. My moment of hope was ruined.
The judge called out again, "Guilty." I was thrown behind bars, waiting in agony, for the day of my hanging to come.
